Animal Control Field Officer for the Philippines

Position Objectives:

  • To respond to calls from Metro Manila and Luzon provincial residents seeking assistance with various animal-related issues
  • To provide animals in distress with immediate rescue and care

Manila, Philippines (Campaigns headquarters)

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct animal care fieldwork locally and in Luzon provinces
  • Provide assistance with companion-animal care, pick up injured or unwanted animals (including wildlife), and trap feral animals
  • Conduct investigations involving neglected or abused animals
  • File complaints with local authorities in situations requiring legal intervention and follow up to ensure that action is taken
  • Work to build PETA's efforts to promote spaying and neutering
  • Care for animals in PETA's custody
  • Arrange spaying and neutering appointments with local veterinarians and transport animals to appointments when needed
  • Maintain a daily log of animals handled and other related paperwork
  • Keep detailed documentation of cases handled, including photographing animals' conditions when appropriate
  • Handle incoming calls for assistance and prepare case sheets
  • Participate in the rotation of the 24-hour emergency cell phone
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of animal-handling experience
  • Proven effective problem-solving and crisis-management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment and discretion
  • Proven ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner
  • Proven ability to coordinate several tasks at once and handle frequent interruptions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time wisely and prioritize tasks
  • Willingness and ability to be on 24-hour emergency call
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. without assistance on a regular basis
  • Ability to engage in frequent bending, stooping, crawling, lifting, reaching, and stair-climbing
  • A valid driver's license is an asset
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organization
