Tell the Krocodile Grille That Reptiles Aren't Decorations!

Recently, PETA Asia-Pacific has been receiving complaints about young crocodiles who are being kept in a glorified fish tank in the Krocodile Grille's Greenbelt restaurant. The crocodiles were removed after the restaurant chain was flooded with complaints, but sadly, the cruel exhibit has now returned.

Our investigators found a sad situation for these animals: Not only are the tanks barely large enough for the crocodiles to turn around in, they also provide no mental stimulation for the animals whatsoever. The crocodiles' current environment denies them of everything that is natural and important to them and provides just enough space for them to lie side-by-side in their barren prison day after day. Many captive animals begin to express their frustration and loneliness through obsessive, repetitive, and even self-destructive behavior. Also known as "zoochosis," this type of behavior is far more likely to develop in situations in which animals have little mental stimulation or environmental enrichment, putting crocodiles in Krocodile Grille restaurants at a very high risk.

In the wild, crocodiles are powerful swimmers who spend their days hunting for food and basking in the sun. Larger breeds of crocodiles can grow to up to 6 meters, but even smaller breeds like dwarf crocodiles and caimans average 1.5 to 2.5 meters. And contrary to popular belief, crocodiles do not grow to fit their enclosure—they will reach their adult size regardless of the size of the tank that they're kept in.

Even the largest enclosure cannot provide the space, exercise, privacy, mental stimulation, and other vital needs of these animals. We have sent a letter to the owner of the chain, Jimmy James Juan, asking him to hand the crocodiles over to our organization so that we can find them a more appropriate home.
